Interested in Building a Custom Carrier Board?
EMAC helps clients build solutions with the exact i/o they need
A Custom Carrier Board is a unique way to approach the Single Board Computer or embedded system needs. It starts by selecting an off-the-shelf System-on-Module “SoM” to provide the Processing core for the system. Then adds the ability to design a Custom Base Board or Custom Carrier Board which allows each project to define what IO is needed, as well as where the connectors are located, and what connectors are used. These custom boards can be as feature-rich, or as basic as needed to meet the specifications of each project.
As an embedded system technology leader, EMAC offers a full line of commercial off-the-shelf carrier boards for Embedded ARM System on Module and x86 Computer on Module projects. EMAC can provide Module and Carrier board solutions that are rugged, compact, low power, and high value. A standard carrier board, also known as SoM development board or baseboard, can be used to start prototyping and software development; while waiting for a custom carrier board solution to be designed and built. If your project requires a custom carrier board our team of engineers have the experience to deliver a quality carrier board at a competitive price. The quality management system of EMAC meets the requirements of the international standard ISO 9001 and we maintain a ISO 9001:2015 certification.
Value
The EMAC approach to module and carrier board development allows you to upgrade your processor and RAM through easily sourced field-replaceable modules. A module-based design allows you to customize the carrier board with only exact I/O needs for a project or project. Imagine building the perfect embedded carrier board for your application or chassis. Reduce the immediate and long-term costs of custom making and replacing I/O cables for pin headers, and reduce unused I/O connections and brackets on the coastline of the board. Building a board with just the I/O required for the product or project can reduce the board’s cost. A Custom Carrier Board provides a custom-embedded board at a reduced cost and time to market, when compared to a fully custom-embedded board.
Flexibility
Flexibility is a core component of a Module-based project. You save expense when updating your applications to support higher-level calculations or increase graphic performance. You don’t need to change the carrier board or chassis design to enhance product performance; simply change the Module portion of your design.
Energy Friendly
Every watt counts when designing an energy-efficient solution and EMAC is a veteran of ARM-based System-on-Module and Carrier Board design and manufacturing. RISC or ARM processors and Microcontrollers require significantly fewer transistors than traditional microprocessors as typically found in traditional computers. The benefits of this approach are reduced costs, heat and power usage compared to more complex chip and system designs, traits which are desirable for lightweight, portable, low power consumption and/or battery-powered applications. Moving lower to the Industrial Internet of Things operation “IIoT”; we have some microcontroller-based SOM modules with Ultra-low power usage, and supporting very low APM sleep mode current draws. These modules make very long-life battery-powered products, while still providing the functionality of larger more powerful systems. Such as our SOM-IMX6U with a sleep current of less than 3.5mA.
Time to Market
Delivering your product at the right time and cost is a key component to success. We understand this process at EMAC and will work with you to deliver your product on time and on budget. After the prototype has been approved, a fully custom design can be derived from the semi-custom prototype. Hardware design of digital, analog, microcontrollers and microprocessor based circuitry is no problem. Circuits containing programmable logic, FPGA, PGA or even ASIC’s can be developed. Multilayer PC boards and surface mount technology can be incorporated into your design.
Capabilities
EMAC is as comfortable designing Embedded ARM System-on-Module as x86 Computer on Module projects. With experience designing and providing Module and Carrier board solutions that are rugged, compact, low power, High Value and Long-life with high reliability. We have the experience needed to design for off-the-shelf SOM modules; such as Artificial intelligence “AI” based SoM modules based on NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin, NVIDIA Jetson Orin NANO, NVIDIA Jetson Orin NX, NVIDIA Xavier AGX, NVIDIA Jetson NANO, NVIDIA Jetson Xavier NX, NVIDIA Jetson TX2, or even RISC, ARM, ARM64 (64-bit ARM), and x86/x64 based modules such as: SMARC, Q7, COM-Express, OSM (Open Standard Module) or even Custom System-on-Module form factors.
The ability to use these existing or make use of these new technologies can substantially reduce the cost per piece of the production unit for large runs. EMAC can have your product talk and interact with a PC. As a matter of fact, your circuit application can be put on a PC card if appropriate. PC interface software may be text or graphics Windows™ based. Acquired data can be stored in standard spreadsheet or database formats and manipulated by the PC. Custom PC-based software, such as TSR’s and device drivers, or fully stand-alone application programs can be developed. After the circuit board is finished and the software is written, EMAC can help with enclosures, front panel artwork, and even manufacturing of the product. EMAC can offer a turn-key solution to your custom engineering needs. Give us a call and just see how reasonable custom engineering can be!
The Hidden Value
EMAC has our Engineering, Manufacturing and Integration services onsite at our facilities, Thus allowing engineers to see problems and issues with producing a product firsthand; as well as our manufacturing to be able to report issues back in real-time. Making it faster to adjust a design to make it easier to produce with fewer problems. Providing system testing options allows us to ship products faster with fewer defects, costing you less time troubleshooting assemblies or systems on-site.
